1837 - 1848 ... The Early Days

In 1837 Colonel William Light travelled from Adelaide to Encounter Bay, passing through what is now known as Willunga.

In 1839 John McLaren surveyed the Southern Districts which was followed by the development of "Morphetts Vale", Onkaparinga Valley, "McLarens Vale" Aldinga Plains, Kungarilla Valley and Willunga.

In July 1848 the first Willunga Ploughing Match took place which was open to competitors from all parts of the colony. Supporters & competitors met at the "Willunga Inn" after the match.
